INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, June 11 - The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen is announcing two open full-time positions for employment in BLET's Washington, D.C. Legislative office.

Director of Political Affairs
The Director of Political Affairs will interact with local, state, and federal legislative bodies and government agencies to represent and advance the Organization's advocacy plans and interests. Among other assignments, this position will lobby for legislative issues and handle political education under the direction of National President Dennis R. Pierce and Vice President and National Legislative Representative Vince G. Verna. You will need outstanding leadership, communication, and especially writing skills to succeed in this position. This position will be headquartered in the BLET's National Legislative Office in Washington, D.C.

Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs
The Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs will promote legislative efforts that are beneficial to the BLET members and collaborate with other organizations to earn the backing of government officials and the public. The job duties include staying current on existing and proposed legislation, meeting with local, state, and federal government officials and lobbyists, and updating the organization's officers on relevant laws and regulations which affect its members. This position will be a part of numerous collaborative endeavors (such as the Rail Safety Advisory Committee with the FRA); prepare the union's comments submitted in response to various agencies' proposals for rulemakings and proposed rules (such as the Federal Railroad Administration, Department of Transportation, Transportation Security Administration and Surface Transportation Board); and prepare comments submitted in response to petitions for waiver from compliance with FRA regulations, all under the direction of National President Dennis R. Pierce and Vice President and National Legislative Representative Vince G. Verna. You will need outstanding leadership, communication, and especially writing skills to succeed in this position. This position will be headquartered in the BLET's National Legislative Office in Washington, D.C.
